My title - a chapter heading in Stephen Apkon’s wonderful book ‘The Age of the Image’ - has never seemed more apt. Yet, before the Covid pandemic, video played a relatively peripheral role in most ELT classrooms.
Maybe all that has changed. The onward march of technology, the recent challenges of teaching and learning remotely and the changing expectations of future employers might mean that video is now about to assume its rightful place - centre stage. We have always known that video offered untapped potential for engaging, effective and enjoyable language learning.
Using material from Macmillan’s adult course, Language Hub, this session will explore practical ways in which we can make this happen.

He has lived and worked in France, Japan and Spain and given workshops to teachers all over the world. He is co-author, with Sue Kay, of various course books including the Inside Out series for Macmillan Education, and has most recently written the lessons to accompany the videos in Macmillan Education’s new series Language Hub. He lives near Oxford where he divides his time between materials development, teaching and a hectic family life.
